FIRE MODELLING AND STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT OF CONCRETE LININGS OF UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES

Abstract The structural fire safety of tunnels is a highly debated theme at international level. Car accidents in road tunnels, failures on the power lines railway [1,2] and electrical related issues technological installations underground research infrastructures can lead to trigger fire. Fire due cars, trains combustion cable insulations be considerably dangerous. such causes stress increases losses bearing capacity exposed concrete linings. Thus, presence relevant risk, both new existing structures need assessed. This paper shows analyses carried out cavern UX15 ATLAS experiment, located Point 1 Large Hadron Collider (LHC) CERN – Meyrin, Switzerland. assessment requires model lining restrain conditions, resistance spalling phenomena. modelling done by Finite Element Method (FEM) code taking into account advanced thermo‐mechanical analyses. shell elements have been used their relatively conservative temperature distribution predictions, acceptable accuracy displacement estimates, reasonable computational burden.
